70-year-old saint found murdered inside temple in Rajasthan’s Kuchaman | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: A 70-year-old man living as a saint at a temple at Rasal village of Deedwana-Kuchaman district was stabbed to death by unknown assailants on Monday. After the mutilated body of Mohan Das was found with his legs and hands tied, police said the motive behind the murder could be gain through robbery or theft at the temple.

The incident came to light at 8am on Monday when a 30-year-old devotee came to the temple for prayers.
“As he walked towards the veranda of the temple, he found the body of the saint, identified as Mohan Das, in a pool of blood. He intimated the local villagers, who then informed us. A police team reached there at 8:30am with FSL team and other experts,” said an officer of Kuchaman police station.

Local villagers gathered at the temple and demanded immediate arrest of the killers. They decided not to claim the body till the killers were arrested.
Trilok Ram, a nephew of Mohan Das, said Das was seen speaking with the villagers at the temple till 8pm on Sunday and went to his room in the temple at 9pm.
“There was nobody with him at the ashram cum temple, and his body was found in the morning. Seeing the blood spots, it appeared the murder took place between 2am and 3am,” the officer added.
Police said Mohan Das had been living in the temple for a long time and giving his services at the Bhairon Baba temple for the last 14 years. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter, who live in the village.
“Prima facie it appears to be a case of murder for gain. Some burglars might have entered the temple and might have been seen by Mohan Das. It appears that he resisted the burglary and was murdered. A probe is on,” said deputy SP Praveen Kumar.
