‘honour Of Dead Body’ Bill To Curb Trend Of Remonstrations | Jaipur News

Jaipur: The Rajasthan government on Tuesday introduced the “Rajasthan Honour of the Dead Body Bill 2023” to mandate decent and timely burial/cremation of the dead and to prohibit family members from using the body for any remonstration.
“Since incidents of remonstration for unjustified demands are increasing in the State and there are no adequate provisions in the existing law to keep a record of unclaimed bodies, protection of genetic data information through DNA profiling and digitization and confidentiality of information are need of the hour,” reads the bill.
“Human dignity with which living human beings are expected to be treated should also be extended to a person who is dead, and the right to accord decent burial or cremation to the dead body of a person should be taken to be a part of the right to such dignity,” says the bill.
The Supreme Court in Writ Petition 143/2001, Ashray Adhikar Abhiyan V/s Union of India, has issued directions for decent burial or cremation of unclaimed bodies.
