Quality Of Life: 5,000 Schools Upgraded But No Additional Teachers Posted | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Government school teachers said that in the past one year around 5,000 schools in the state have been upgraded from Class VIII to Class XII and Class X to Class XII, but additional teachers have not been assigned. Due to the shortage of teachers, classes are not conducted regularly for all students as the existing teaching staff is stretched.
Teachers said that around 3600 schools in the state were upgraded from class X to Class XII where lecturers are needed to teach students of higher classes, but teachers have not been posted or assigned in these schools.
“In the past one year, around 5000 schools have been upgraded in the state despite it being known as adequate number of teachers are not available. As the schools got upgraded, admissions are also taking place in senior standards, but who will teach them. Recruitment of new teacher has been pending in the department and as promotions also did not happen, posts are sanctioned but teachers are not available,” said Vipin Prakash Sharma, senior vice president of Rajasthan Primary and Secondary Education Teachers’ Association. Teachers said that the education department needs a cadre of 77,000 teachers but only 26,000 teachers are working.
With such a gap, “classroom teaching is getting affected due to lack of teachers”.
“In rural areas in this academic session, students have almost spent half the year without any proper classroom education,” he added. TNN

Upper age limit raised in TN for recruiting govt school teachers
The Tamil Nadu school education department has increased the upper age limit for Teacher Eligibility Test qualified candidates in an effort to provide more experienced teachers to government schools. The age limit for open category candidates has been raised from 40 to 53 years, while for reserved categories it has been increased from 45 to 58 years. The move comes after a demand from TET qualified candidates who have not seen any recruitment in the past 10 years. Teacher organizations have welcomed the decision but have also called for regular teacher recruitment to avoid vacancies.
