Jaipur: After his vital contribution with the ball, Deepak Chahar turned up with a match-winning cameo of unbeaten 27 off 14 balls to enable Rajasthan register a four-wicket win against Uttarakhand in a Group D game of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Mohali on Wednesday.
The right-arm seamer’s batting ability came in handy as he joined seasoned batter Arjit Gupta (22 off 17 balls) when Rajasthan still needed 44 from 27 balls, and the duo guided the team to a successful run chase.
Currently, Rajasthan have 10 points from five games where they have won two and lost two, with one game against Pondicherry being abandoned that resulted in point sharing.
With 161 needed, captain Deepak Hooda anchored the innings after Rajasthan lost the openers, Abhijeet Tomar and Mukul Choudhary, in 2.1 overs. His 46-ball 60 included five 4s and a six. He was joined by Mahipal Lomror (33 off 22 balls) in the innings rebuilding process.
After Hooda perished on a left-arm seamer Agrim Tiwari delivery in the 16th over, Gupta and Deepak steered the team home with four balls to spare.
Earlier, having decided to bowl first, left-arm seamer Aniket Choudhary gave Rajasthan two breakthroughs by seventh over after Uttarakhand were off to a flyer. It was Aditya Tare, whose 38-ball 61 gave stability to Uttarakhand’s innings, while Akhil Rawat’s cameo of 21 off 12 balls added respectability to the score.
Aniket (4-0-24-3) and Deepak (3.5-0-25-3) claimed three wickets apiece as Akash Madhwal’s side was bowled out for 160 in 19.5 overs.
Meanwhile, in the Group A ties being played in Jaipur, Haryana beat Meghalaya by5 wickets and Baroda posted a 7-wicket win against Chhattisgarh. Hyderabad overcame Mumbai by 23 runs while J&K won by 7 runs against Mizoram.
