Judge, citing Trump’s ‘repeated public statements,’ orders anonymous jury in defamation suit trial
A federal judge in New York has ordered an anonymous jury for the defamation lawsuit filed against former President Donald Trump by a writer who accused him of sexual abuse. The judge cited Trump’s “repeated public statements” as a reason for the anonymity, as well as the extensive media coverage of the case. This comes after another anonymous jury awarded $5 million in damages to columnist E. Jean Carroll in a similar case. Trump’s lawyers have not yet responded to the judge’s order. The trial is set to begin in January 2023.
