JAISALMER: At a time when Dalit grooms are assaulted for riding a horse, a Dalit family in Barmer district hired a private helicopter to bring their daughter-in-law home for the first time.
Though the first helicopter that her in-laws had booked refused at the last moment, they shelled out an extra Rs 1 lakh to fulfil her mother-in-law’s dream to bring daughter in law home in a copter.
Tarun Meghwal got married with Dhiya at Bidhanion ki Dhani near the border in Barmer district on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, the newly married couple reached Jasedhar Dham in Barmer city in a helicopter.
When the helicopter arrived to land, the crowd went out of control forcing the aircraft to shelve its plans of landing. Later, when the crowd was controlled by police, the helicopter landed.
According to retired teacher Tagaram, the community is very backward in Barmer district but the way helicopter was sent to bring the bride was really praiseworthy.
