JAIPUR: Jaipur police on Saturday arrested the driver of a speeding minibus that ran over three persons in Sanganer’s Raghunath Puri, killing an 8-year-old boy and leaving two injured on Friday night.
ASI Sanganer police station Gopal Ram said that accused Balram was arrested under IPC Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
Police said that while Akshit (8) died a few moments later he was brought to Jaipuria hospital, while Anshuka (9) and Murti (35) are undergoing treatment at SMS Hospital.
Ajay Kumar Sahu, a local resident, said that Akshit and Anshuka were playing outside their house. Anushka’s family lived as tenants in the house which belonged to Akshit’s family.
“The children were crossing the road to fetch their ball. Murti sells pani puri in the same locality. She was going after the kids to help them. The speeding mini-bus with its horn blaring ploughed into the trio,” he said. Another local, Rakesh, said that Murti lived with her family in the same locality. Every evening she sets up her pani puri pushcart.
“When the kids were running across the street to fetch their ball, she (Murti) told them that she would help them. The bus was barrelling along the road when suddenly it veered off and ran over the kids and woman,” he said. After hitting locals, the bus shot off a nullah and crashed into an abandoned house on a vacant plot.
