Govt Tells Univs To Set Up Offices For Student Unions By February 10 | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: The state college education commissionerate on Wednesday ordered to inaugurate student union offices across the state before February 10. For this, approval of the concerned MLA will also be needed, states the order.
Inauguration of student union offices in most of the colleges across Rajasthan is pending after elections were conducted in August last year. However, as per rules, only the consent of the college authorities is needed and the president of the student union can decide the date.
Student union leaders said that this order is dictatorial and against the norms of the Lyngdoh committee.
Hushyar Meena, national secretary of ABVP said, “This order by the state government is extremely dictatorial and completely wrong. No permissions from any MLA or any other public representative is needed for inaugurating student union offices in colleges. Only the college authorities need to be informed about the date and the college union president can take the decisions.”
Meena further alleged that this order has been issued so that presence of Congress MLAs can be increased within youth.
“Most of the posts in college and university elections across Rajasthan were won by ABVP candidates last year, with such orders, the state government is only trying to increase the interaction of its MLAs within youth before the election year,” added Meena.
The order also comes two days after a fight broke out between RU student union leaders in the presence of union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, who was the chief guest, during a function to inaugurate the student union office at the Maharani College on Monday.
ABVP’s Arvind Jajra was seen hitting RUSU president Nirmal Chaudhary on the head from behind, while both were on the stage. Jajra, while speaking to media, on Wednesday said that he was only trying to stop Chaudhary and his supporters, who were allegedly going to throw ink on the dignitaries on the stage.
