Jaipur: Only 98,640 jobs, which is 3% of the total 29.28 lakh in the country, were generated under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) in Rajasthan in the last five years (from 2017-18 to 2021-22), data from the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship has revealed.
The data also revealed that Rs 423.51 crore has been allocated under PMEGP in the last five years, and Rs 381.31 crore has been disbursed so far. In Rajasthan, 12,330 units have been assisted under the scheme, informed Rajeev Chandrashekhar, the minister of state in the ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship, in a reply to an unstarred question in Lok Sabha on February 6.
The MSME ministry is implementing PMEGP through Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to promote entrepreneurs in setting up new units in the non-farm sector. “It aims at bringing together widely dispersed traditional artisans, and rural and urban unemployed youth and giving them self-employment opportunities to the extent possible at their doorstep,” the reply stated.
