Pdcor: Mou With Australian Group To Preserve Walled City Heritage | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: An MoU was signed on Friday between PDCOR Ltd, a joint venture company of the state government, and AusHeritage, a network of Australian cultural heritage management organisations, to work on preparing a road map for preserving Jaipur’s Walled City, known globally as Pink City.
AusHeritage chairman Vinod Daniel and PDCOR Ltd CEO Dileep Kumar Chingapurah signed this MoU on heritage cooperation. PDCOR Ltd is a project development company jointly promoted by Rajasthan government and Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS) since 1998.
Officials said a group of architects and over 200 masons have been identified for empanelment with the state government for the work on protecting the existing buildings in Walled City, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. They will also advise the urban development and housing (UDH) department on how to reconcile the existing infrastructure with the needs of a growing population. GS Sandhu, advisor to the UDH department, said the road map would focus on 6.8 sq km of Walled City and some buffer area as Jaipur Heritage city is a unique living city that also remains the hub of business and trade in the city.
“The state government has given us a big responsibility to maintain the heritage value of this city. We are making a special heritage plan that will take care of infrastructure, disaster management, heritage conservation, traffic mobility, transport and parking. We have collaborated with AusHeritage for this project. Their delegation is here to work with us,” said Sandhu.
This special heritage cooperation plan, he said, is being made keeping in mind the needs of the growing population for at least the next decade, and it would be coordinated by PDCOR Ltd.
“The plan will focus on stopping encroachments and, if any new construction is to be done, then architects and masons with experience of working in heritage cities and empanelled with the government will work on it,” added Sandhu. Vinod Daniel said AusHeritage has had over two decades of collaborations with India. “It is a delight to be part of the workshop on preparing the Jaipur special area heritage plan and sign the MoU with PDCOR on heritage cooperation,” he added.
