Rain, hailstorms hit crops across Rajasthan | Jaipur News

JAIPUR/JAISALMER: For the past one week, 65-year-old Rameshwari Buri of Ringas village in Sikar district has been restless and worried to see the harvested crop of wheat in his farmland badly hit by recent spells of hailstorm.
“Almost 40% of the wheat crop in my ten-bigha farmland has been damaged. Wholesalers at the mandis drop the purchase price when they find that a major chunk of the crop is damaged. It is a heavy loss for us this year,” said Buri.
Like him, many farmers in most parts of the state are anxious about the crop loss they have suffered in the face of bank loans to be repaid and seed has to be bought for the next Kharif crops. Crops worth lakhs of rupees have been damaged in many places, including in Barmer and Jaisalmer districts.
A fresh spell of thundershowers and hailstorms at many places in Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer and Bharatpur divisions on Tuesday added to the farmers’ miseries. Crops worth lakhs of rupees have been damaged in the canal areas of Jaisalmer and Lathi-Chandhan areas.
