Deworming Drive Yields Good Results | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Deworming campaigns are playing significant roles in reducing the prevalence of worms in children. A survey conducted by the health department has found that the prevalence of worms, which cause anaemia and affect children’s growth, reduced from 21% in 2013 to 1% in 2023.
Doses of Albendazole were administered to children in the 1 to 19 age group starting from anganwadis to schools in the state under National Deworming Programme. National Health Mission’s (NHM) mission director in Rajasthan, Dr Jitendra Kumar Soni, said the campaign was monitored strictly, and the availability of medicines was ensured. The problem of stomach worm infection occurs in small children and adolescents, badly affecting their physical and mental development. Soni stressed the need for wide publicity for deworming campaigns at the local level to reach every beneficiary.
The annual National Deworming Day programme was organized in Rajasthan for the first time in 2015, in which 1.18 crore children were made worm-free. In October 2022, 2.57 crore children were made worm-free by being given worm-control medicineAlbendazole. Aganwadis and schools played crucial roles, said reproduction and child health (RCH) department director Dr RP Doria.tnn
