Rajasthan: Farmer Protests Use Of His Photo On Bjp Poster |

Jaisalmer: BJP’s ‘Nahi Sahega Rajasthan’ campaign, which seeks to put Rajasthan’s Congress government on the mat in the upcoming assembly elections, has hit a roadblock in Jaisalmer district. A farmer whose photo has been used by BJP’s ubiquitous posters and banners about the alleged auctioning off of farmers’ land has vehemently disputed the claim about himself.
The party’s posters and banners have the heading “The rule of lies by Congress: Fake promises of loan waivers,” and then say, “Land of more than 19,000 farmers have been auctioned off”. These campaign materials carry a big photo of Madhuram Jaipal, an ageing farmer from Jaisalmer district.
Jaipal has claimed that not only has his photo been used by BJP in its posters without his permission, the party’s claim about the auction of land and waiver of loans do not apply to him. “I do not have any loans, and none of my land has been auctioned. I own 200 bighas of land,” said Jaipal, 70, a resident of Rikhiyon Ki Dhani in Ramdevra village. He also said he plans to file a defamation case against BJP.
A photo of BJP’s posters and banners in Jaipur carrying Jaipal’s photos was clicked by a village youth who had come to the capital city. He shared it on a WhatsApp group of the village, writing with it, “Madhoba is in the limelight in Jaipur”. Jaipal’s youngest son, Jugtaram, who happens to be in the same group, saw it and informed him. Pictures of the same posters and banners put up in Pokaran and Phalodi soon began circulating in several other WhatsApp groups in Jaisalmer district.
“I did not understand it as there was an auction of land, but my land was not auctioned. So my photo was used without any reason. I was also not asked for permission for use of my photo,” said Jaipal.
Jaipal said since he does not have any loan, his photo should be removed from BJP’s campaign material. “I do not know BJP. I dare anyone to come up with proof that my land was auctioned off or that I had loans,” he said. “Due to these posters, my father remains in tension and repeatedly asks what happened to his photo, whether it was removed or not. He has requested BJP to remove his photo as it is defaming him because the people are passing comments about it,” said Jugtaram.
BJP’s ‘Nahi Sahega Rajasthan’ campaign was launched by the party’s national president JP Nadda on July 16.
