Assembly Clears Mahatma Gandhi Institute Of Governance And Social Sciences Bill | Jaipur News

Jaipur: State assembly on Monday passed the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Governance and Social Sciences (MGIGSS) bill by voice vote clearing the way for CM Ashok Gehlot’s ambitious project to take off in Jaipur.
Minister of state for higher education, Rajendra Yadav, while presenting the bill in the assembly said, “The institute will set a new benchmark in quality education, research, training, capacity building, governance and innovation. The institute will be established on the lines of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). The institute will collaborate with Azim Premji Foundation.”
He told the assembly that the institute is being constructed on the campus at Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, Jaipur. “Rs 233 crore has been allocated for MGIGSS. In total, Rs 180 crore has been already spent. The construction work of the institute started on October 21, 2022, and will be completed by March 31, 2024,” said the minister. Leader of opposition Rajendra Rathore questioning the timing of the bill, said, “It is strange that the institute which will run as a deemed university was announced in the Budget 2021-22 and 2022-23 and is introduced in the assembly in the third year. The delay in bringing the institute is an insult to the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, as the institute is named after him.” TNN
