Attach anti-suicide devices to fans: Kota admin to hostels, PGs | Jaipur News

KOTA: To prevent suicide of students of coaching institutes by hanging from ceiling fans in their hostels and PG rooms, Kota district administration has strictly ordered the owners of these accommodations to ensure that all fans there are equipped with spring devices that act as an anti-suicide tool.
In an order dated August 16, Kota district collector OP Bunker referred to a decision taken at a review meeting held last week with officials, stakeholders of the coaching industry, and strictly directed the owners of hostels and PG accommodations to ensure spring devices are attached to ceiling fans in the students’ rooms. In case of non-compliance of the direction, he warned of strict action against the owners and management.
With suicide by coaching students, mostly by hanging from ceiling fans in hostel rooms, on the rise, Kota Hostel Association (KHA) had come up with idea of equipping fans with spring devices in March 2017. The springs in these devices are supposed to work as anti-suicide tools by detecting any load more than 20 kg and uncoiling immediately, thereby detaching the fan from the ceiling.
A firm in Gujarat was assigned the task, and most of the hostel rooms were furnished with this device in the fans, but themost of PG rooms did not do so.
