Barmer: Barmer Admin Set To Remove Luni Squatters | Jaipur News

Jaisalmer: The district administration in Barmer is waiting to receive a copy of the high court’s orders to start demolishing encroachments on the Luni riverbed in Balotra area, Balotra SDM Vivek Vyas said on Tuesday. The high court’s division bench in Jodhpur, comprising Justices Vijay Vishnoi and Yogendra Kumar Purohit, on May 5 ordered to immediately remove the encroachments. The order was passed on a public interest litigation filed by Sumer Lal Sharma.
Sharma told TOI that some of the encroachers had sought a stay but the high court refused it and ordered them to submit papers before the Balotra SDM for factual checking. Their applications were dismissed by the SDM, after which the high court started hearing the PIL.
Many people have purchased plots on the riverbed of Luni near Balotra town over the past years. After the PIL filed by Sharma, the revenue department identified more than 90 encroachments in a survey. On the high court’s orders, the administration in November 2022 started removing encroachments near the mega highway bridge on Samdadi road.
