Bhiwadi, Sriganganagar Buck Traffic Fatality Trend | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Strict enforcement of traffic rules and strategic planning helped cut traffic fatalities in Bhiwadi and Sriganganagar police districts even as other districts failed to stem the tide of deaths in road accidents.
Sriganganagar witnessed 177 deaths in road accidents last year against 232 in 2021. Bhiwadi logged 263 such deaths last year against 306 in 2021. ADGP (Traffic) VK Singh said persistent planning and efforts to improve road safety brought about a drastic decline in accident casualties in these two districts.
Talking to TOI, Sriganganagar SP Anand Sharma said the district police closely examined the patterns of road accidents and changed its traffic management strategy accordingly. “For example, we had three interceptors that mostly moved around city areas. We changed their locations to accident-prone spots. This allowed us to control speeding vehicles,” he said.
“We also focused on drunken driving and the helmet rule. For about two hours every day, we set up checkpoints in small towns and villages near highways to control drunken driving and ensure people wear helmets. As challans were issued, it sent out a message to others too,” added Sharma.
Sriganganagar police also held a series of meetings with highway authorities to identify problems that led to accidents. “Several steps were taken to weed out accident-related problems on the highways and improve road safety measures by ensuring repairs and cutting down bushes,” said Sharma.
He also said police investigated accidents caused by low visibility due to foggy conditions. “We put reflectors on tractors, trucks and other vehicles used in agricultural activities. We also put reflector tapes on the horns of stray cattle,” added Sharma.
Bhiwadi police also used a similar strategy by focusing on identifying accident-prone zones and effectively enforcing safety norms.
