Boycotted Vote: Boycott Vote in Rajasthan: Unaddressed Grievances Lead to Protests | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: As people across the state eagerly participated in the democratic process by casting their votes in the election, some polling booths became the focal point of a different narrative due to protests through boycott by voters.
In Chavarli village of Pindwara Abu assembly constituency in Sirohi district, all 890 voters chose to abstain from voting, standing united to highlight unaddressed grievances. The primary demand voiced by Chavarli villagers was the inclusion of their village in Basantgarh gram panchayat. Additionally, they demanded construction of a service road connecting their village to the highway. Citing safety concerns, the villagers asserted that accidents had claimed lives due to the absence of a service road.
Despite efforts by administrative and police officers to engage in dialogue with the villagers, a resolution remained elusive. Chief executive officer Rajesh Mewara acknowledged that the demand of villagers related to delimitation. The district collector had previously sent a report to the departments concerned, and meetings were conducted to apprise the villagers of the issue, he said.
This wasn’t the first instance of voting boycott in Chavarli village. In previous zilla parishad election, the villagers had similarly abstained, with their concerns largely going unaddressed.
Ganga Singh Deora, a resident, said, “Even we feel sad that we are not participating, however, apart from this, there was no other option. If the demands are not met, we will also boycott the Lok Sabha election.”
Another resident, Praveen Kumar Meghwal, said, “Our village was included in Anand panchayat against our will. For the development of the region, we demand to include our village in Basantgarh panchayat where it was initially. If the government cannot fulfil this demand, what’s the point of voting?”
