Boy’s Drowning: Plaint Filed 15 Days Ago About Drainage | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Residents of the locality in Murlipura where a 7-year-old boy, named Rishi Kumar, drowned in an open drain on Monday, said that they had complained to the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) just 15 days ago about the poor drainage system.
They said that they had made several complaints to the JMC in the past one year, but the sewerage lines were not cleaned. Due to construction work on a road in the locality, drain covers had been removed at many places, they said. Complaints made to the contractor of the construction work also led to no action, they said. On Tuesday, the residents insisted that JMC officials visit the spot and accept blame for their negligence.
“We have been complaining to the authorities for the past one year that the drainage system here is in poor condition and needs to be repaired. Even 15 days ago we informed the municipal corporation and asked them to clean the drains before monsoon, but no action was taken. This tragedy could have been avoided,” said Santosh Agarwal, the JMC councillor from Murlipura.
He said that the civic body had now put iron railings and stones around the open drains so that no one else falls into them. TNn
