Cabinet Berths: Communities Lobby for Cabinet Berths: Influence and Demands | Jaipur News
Jaipur: The race for cabinet berths has picked up pace after the announcement of the CM, two deputy CMs, and the Assembly Speaker. Leaders of different castes and communities have started lobbying with BJP leaders in Jaipur as well as Delhi, promoting their community MLAs for plum cabinet posts. Communities like Jat, Meghwal, Meena, Gujjar, and Vaishya are trying hard to convince the party’s central leadership to induct their MLAs in the first cabinet.
The Assembly can accommodate 29 ministers besides the CM, as per the rule.The larger shares of 4-5 ministers have gone to the Rajput and Jat communities in previous BJP governments.
“We have expressed our concern that Jats, which is the largest community in the state, have the largest contingent of 31 MLAs, including 14 from the BJP. As they have picked a Brahmin face for the CM and Rajput and SC leaders for deputy CMs, they have to give four cabinet berths and two state minister posts to the Jats,” said the leader of a Jat body, who requested anonymity until the upcoming government inducts the cabinet.
Naresh Patel, convenor of OBC Adhikar Manch, argued that BJP’s 37 MLAs out of 115 belong to the OBC community. “It is sad that 30% of the MLAs belong to the OBC communities and yet they didn’t consider them for the CM and deputy CM posts. We have written letters to party leaders saying that at least 50% of the ministers should be from OBC communities. The reason is that the number of OBC MLAs may not be 50% but we gave 50% of the votes to the saffron party,” said Patel.
Gabbar Katara, youth president of Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha, thanked the party for picking a Brahmin face for the top post and expects them to get 2-3 cabinet berths in the council of ministers. “Brahmins not only voted for the BJP, they also ensured that voters under their influence voted for the BJP. In my conversations with party leaders, I have been told that decent representation would encourage the community to support the party in the Lok Sabha polls as well,” said Katara.

None of the eight Brahmin candidates fielded by the Congress could secure a seat in the state assembly, attributed to the Bhupesh Baghel governments assertive OBC politics. The assembly will also not have any minority member representing Congress, unlike the lone Christian candidate from the BJP who was elected. In the 2023 assembly elections, the Congress fielded eight Brahmin candidates, none of whom were successful. On the other hand, out of the BJP’s seven Brahmin candidates, five won their respective constituencies.

He believes that OBC leaders from Maharashtra should fight for the community members in the state and that leaders from other states have no role in the reservation issue. Bhujbal has conditions for addressing rallies, including the presence of OBC leaders from Maharashtra and raising only OBC-related issues.
