Car Industry: Car dispatches up 16% at record 3.9 lakh units in October

NEW DELHI: The car industry is having a cracker of a Diwali as companies made strong dispatches to dealerships to cash in on the festive fervour as demand remains sturdy. And, not only carmakers, but two-wheeler companies also recorded strong wholesales ahead of the Dhanteras and Diwali days.
Car dispatcheshit an all-time high in October, with numbers estimated at 3.9 lakh units at a growth of over 16%.While Maruti and Mahindra & Mahindra posted their highest-ever dispatches, others like Hyundai and Toyota also went in for strong deliveries to dealerships. Except for Honda Cars, most of the other key carmakers reported positive dispatches.
Shashank Srivastava, director (sales & marketing) at Maruti Suzuki, said the industry is poised to get record numbers this year, ahead of 41 lakh units.
Tarun Garg, COO at Hyundai India, said the company’s dispatches are up 15% as it gets demand for SUV line-up, including newly-launched mini Exter.
One of the biggest set of numbers came in for Mahindra which nearly touched a dispatch of 44,000 units with its set of SUVs such as the Scorpio-N, XUV700, and Thar. “While the strong festive demand should see us continue our growth momentum in November, we will keep a close watch of select supply related challenges,” Veejay Nakra, president of M&M’s automotive division, said.
The festive push also came to rescue of two-wheeler companies, which have been seeing sluggish demand due to pressures on entry-level category. All top makers, such as, Hero Moto, HMSI, TVS, Royal Enfield and Suzuki had a growth in dealership dispatches.
