CEA Krishnamurthy Subramanian to return to academia

NEW DELHI: Chief economic adviser (CEA) Krishnamurthy Subramanian said on Friday that he has decided to return to academia after completing his three-year term in the finance ministry.
“I have decided to return to academia following the completion of my three-year fulfilling tenure as the CEA. To get an opportunity to serve one’s nation is an absolute privilege!.” Subramanian said, while announcing his surprise decision on Twitter.
In 2018, the Centre had appointed Subramanian, an associate professor at the Hyderabad-based Indian School of Business as the CEA. His appointment, for three years, came nearly six months after Arvind Subramanian stepped down. At 47 years, Krishnamurthy Subramanian was among the youngest to be appointed to the post.

“It’s been a delight to work with @SubramanianKri ( Subramanian). His academic brilliance, unique perspectives on key economic as well as policy matters and reformist zeal are noteworthy. Wishing him the very best for his coming endeavours,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
His decision to return to academia comes at a time when work on the crucial economic survey is set to kick off. The document, a report card of the economy, is prepared under the CEA’s charge.
“Each day that I have walked into North Block, I have reminded myself of this privilege, while endeavouring my best to do justice to the responsibility that comes with the privilege. Being provided the opportunity to contribute during a period of tremendous uncertainty and epochal change has been the lucky icing on the cake,” Subramanian said in his post. He will complete his term in December.
The outgoing CEA heaped praise on PM Narendra Modi. “I have received tremendous encouragement and support from within the government and have been fortunate to enjoy a warm relationship with senior functionaries. In close to three decades of my professional life, I am yet to encounter a more inspiring leader than the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modiji.”
