56 clinics treating childless couples get registration certificates | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Sixteen clinics providing treatment to childless couples through assisted reproductive technique (ART) and by surrogacy have faced rejections when they applied for certification for registration under the Surrogacy (regulation) Act, 2021 and under the Assisted Reproductive Technology (regulation) Act, 2021.
However, 56 such clinics have been approved by the health department which were provided with certificates of registration by the health department at the health directorate on Tuesday.
It is for the first time that such clinics are being provided with registration certification for their regulation and supervision and for prevention of misuse of the ART. The health department’s team conducted inspection of 72 such clinics who are providing treatment to childless couples through ART.
“Out of 72 such clinics, we have found 56 of them following norms of Surrogacy Act and Assisted Reproductive Technology Act, while 16 have not fulfilled the criteria, so they have been rejected.
In both the Acts, such clinics have been asked to fulfil the set criteria and ensure basic standard facilities, if they fail to ensure them, they faced rejection and will not be allowed to work until they improve on the shortcomings,” said Dr ML Salodia, nodal officer, Surrogacy Act and ART Act.
In the inspection, the health team did not find proper equipment, like the equipment which keep constant temperature required for cryo-preserve including storing gametes, zygotes, embryos, ovarian and testicular tissues in safe conditions, incubators were not available, qualified staff was not present, other flaws in building, equipment, and human resources.
Among those 56 which have been provided with registration, six clinics got the approval for surrogacy while 48 got the approval for ART clinics and two for ART banks.
