Jaipur: It was also the strength of social media that helped cops find the 29-year-old accused who abducted the infant. Additional commissioner of police (crime) Ajay Pal Lamba said that after several days of hectic search, the police on Friday released a poster of the accused, Hemandra Singh Jat.
“Several people had put the same poster on their WhatsApp status. We learned later on that people shared it on different WhatsApp groups,” Lamba told TOI, adding that calls and information began pouring in which paved the way for the police to calibrate their investigation.
“Our teams worked really hard, but people’s participation was equally paramount in this case,” he said.
DCP (East) Rajeev Pachar said that the people responded in large numbers to the police’s initiative. “We had shared the information on all police WhatsApp groups, similarly, people also wanted the baby to reunite with his family,” he said. The Jaipur police said that it was for the first time that they had used social media and sought people’s participation to such a high degree.
