BIKANER: Curfew was imposed and internet services suspended till further orders in Chiriya Gandhi panchayat and Gandhi Badi areas under Bhirani police station in Hanumangarh district on Wednesday following clashes between police and protesters demanding legal action against those who were allegedly involved in cow slaughter during Eid on July 11.
This follows an FSL report which found a sample taken of the meat positive on Tuesday.
The four accused – Faruq, Anwar, Amin Khan, and Sikandar Khan – were arrested by the police on charges of cow slaughter.
Hanumangarh district collector Nathmal Didel and SP Ajay Kumar Singh rushed to the disturbed areas following clashes.
“The administration had accepted most of the demands made by the protesters, but they kept on making new ones. Finally, they were advised to end the protest as prohibitory orders under Section 144 has been imposed. But they continued with the protest,” said district collector Nathmal Didel to TOI.
“As far as the FSL report is concerned, one sample out of the six collected by the police was found positive,” he said. The protesters have been sitting on dharna after the FSL report came on Tuesday. Police dispersed the agitators using force. Two cases have been registered against the protesters for violating prohibitory orders and spreading communal hate.
The protesters are demanding the arrest of all those who slaughtered cows, served and consumed beef on July 11. Another demand is to remove an alleged encroachment for a graveyard. Following FSL report, a delegation led by former BJP MLA Sanjeev Beniwal gave a memorandum to district authorities demanding fair, detailed and high-level investigation into the incident.
