JAIPUR: Chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday again raised the demand to grant national project status to the ambitious East Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP).
“The state has been repeatedly raising the issue with the Centre and I would urge the project to be declared a national project at the earliest,” said Gehlot at the Northern Zonal Council (NZC) meeting chaired by Union home minister Amit Shah here.
While explaining the alarming situation of surface and groundwater in the state, Gehlot said, “The biggest challenge the state is facing is scarcity of water for drinking, irrigation and industrial purposes. I feel the state needs to fast-track all issues related to water for overall development,” said Gehlot.
