Cm’s Osd Rebuts Modi’s Jibe On Acquittal Of Blasts’ Accused | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s allegation that the Congress government in Rajasthan allowed the culprits of the Jaipur bomb blasts to go scot-free, Lokesh Sharma, OSD to chief minister Ashok Gehlot said that perhaps the PM is not aware, nor is the Member of Parliament from Jaipur, that the death sentence was awarded to the culprits of the bomb blasts during the time of the Congress government only…But when the blasts took place (May 13 2008), there was a BJP government.
He said, “In the lost game of Karnataka, even baseless talks by taking the name of Rajasthan will not be of any help…!!!.”
When the serial bomb blasts took place, the BJP was in power but was defeated in December 2008 elections and the trial court in 2019 gave them the death sentence.
The PM during his campaign in Karnataka used the acquittal as an instance of Congress saving terror accused and politics of appeasement. The PM’s speech was tweeted by Jaipur rural MP Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.
A division bench of the Rajasthan High Court recently acquitted all the four accused — Mohammad Saif (32), Mohammad Sarvar (36), Saif-Ur-Rahman (36), and Salman (34) who were given capital punishment by a trial court, in an appeal in the high court. The court found many serious lapses in the police investigation including fabricating documents.
The state BJP has been using it as a weapon to target the state government alleging the government had not seriously defended the conviction of the trial court in the high court. The government has said it will appeal in the supreme court against the acquittal.
The serial bombings in Jaipur, a series of eight synchronized bomb blasts that took place on May 13, 2008, within a span of 15 minutes at various locations in Jaipur killing about 80 people while injuring nearly 200.
