Cops wade into choppy waters of land rows despite suspensions | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: One DSP and two SHOs have been suspended within two days over alleged anomalies in probing property dispute cases.
On Tuesday, Jaipur police suspended the SHOs of Bhatta Basti after an elderly man died by suicide and claimed that the officer was putting undue pressure on him to vacate a property.
On Monday, the ACP Pratap Nagar and the SHO of Ramnagariya police station were suspended after the police headquarters (PHQ) received a complaint about irregularities in a property case. TOI on Sunday had reported that despite directions from senior officials of the PHQ, field units continue to intervene in complicated land and property rows.
A senior official of the PHQ told TOI that all cops posted in districts were told in categorical terms that when matters involving the dispute over the possession of a plot of land are brought to police station, the official concerned should first maintain status quo.
“The responsibility of the local police station is always to maintain status quo till investigation is underway. They should not act on one party’s complaint to remove another party from that particular property,” said the official.
The official also said that the revenue department and the local civic bodies are best equipped to handle questions related to the possession, deeds and registration of properties.
“I firmly believe that cops should not wade into choppy waters of land rows because only competent authorities can adjudge the veracity of two claimants fighting over a property,” the official said.
Other officials were of the view that property disputes are a perennial problem in urban areas. “The basic problem is that often one khasra number has multiple owners. This is due to irregularities in cooperative societies,” said anofficial.
