Jaipur cops list 74 waterlogging hotspots ahead of monsoon | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: The city traffic police have identified 74 potential waterlogging hotspots in Jaipur ahead of the monsoon season.
After surveying areas highly susceptible to water accumulation, the police handed over the list to the district administration to take necessary actions. Ironically, Yadgar, where the office of the traffic police is located, is also on the list.
Talking to TOI, additional commissioner of police (traffic and administration) Rahul Prakash said that the city police compiled this list to help facilitate corrective measures. He added that DCP (traffic) was directed to devise diversion plans for these areas as well.
“We have also instructed traffic officials to coordinate with civic authorities to strengthen the drainage systems in these vulnerable areas,” he said.
The traffic police have identified 19 locations in the eastern zone where waterlogging frequently occurs. These areas include the Nandpuri underpass, Malpura Gate, Gandhi Circle, Durgapura Chowarah, Gandhi Nagar intersection, Laxmi Mandir trijunction, Kisan Marg, Trimurti Circle, Raja Park, Panchvati, and the entire stretch of Govind Marg.
The assessment was conducted based on previous experiences during heavy monsoon rains that often caused severe traffic congestion. Similarly, there are 18 identified hotspots in the south police zone, starting from Sanjay Circle and including Shalimar Tiraha, Ahinsa Circle, Sodala Circle, New Sanganer Road, Shyam Nagar vegetable market, Tilak Marg, Sahakar Marg, Nirman Nagar, and others.
Areas like Sodala are close to the high-security Civil Lines, where VIP movement can be affected if waterlogging gets out of control. Sources anticipate a similar situation in susceptible areas such as Ramgarh Mod, Manbagh Chowraha, Subash Chowk, Chandi Ki Taksal, Johari Bazar, Choura Rasta, Sanjay Circle, Vanasthali Chowraha, Ambabari, and others.
Furthermore, areas like Sikar Road, Sindi Camp, Hasanapura, Murlipura, and Vaishali Nagar, which have experienced heavy rains in recent years, have also been included in the identified hotspots. During the previous year’s rainfall, low-lying areas suffered from persistent waterlogging, and some residents had to resort to using machines to pump out water. Additionally, localities such as Sirsi Road, Jhotwara, and Kamla Nehru Nagar faced problems with both waterlogging and navigating through large potholes left behind by the rain.
The police have shared this list with officials from the district administration to mitigate the impact of heavy rains resulting in waterlogging in these areas.
Officials at the district collectortate stated that they had asked for the list from Jaipur traffic department during a meeting on June 12.
“We are going to keep special focus on the roads mentioned in the list forwarded by the DCP traffic. These are the problematic roads and water logging during monsoon is a perennial problem on these roads,” said Mohammed Abubakhr, additional district collector (South).
