Couple takes poison after being beaten in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur, hubby dies | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: A 29-year-old man committed suicide by consuming poison in Bharatpur on Thursday night while his wife, who also had consumed poison with him, is battling for life at the hospital there.
Police said the couple consumed poison on Thursday night, hours after they were beaten up by some people during a scuffle the couple had with their neighbours at Budhli village under Sikari police station area of Bharatpur.
Irrfan died at the hospital, and his wife, Taalima, 29, is under treatment at the hospital in Bharatpur, said a police officer. “The couple had had a confrontation with their neighbours, identified as Faqru, Umar and Bhondu. It was a violent scuffle in which Irrfan and his wife were badly beaten up. Both were shellshocked and consumed some poisonous substance after dinner at their home,” said an officer of Sikari police station.
When the couple started vomiting, their relatives rushed them to a hospital in Sikari town, where Irrfan died. It was found that Irfan had brought three capsules of Celphos, a fumigant to protect stored products from pests and insects, and had consumed two capsules, while Taalima took one, added the officer.
The relatives of Irrfan and Taalima have lodged a complaint of assault at the police station. “We will investigate the case and see if we can add the sections of IPC related to abetment of suicide. The woman (Taalima) is unable to give her statements now. Much would depend on her statements,” said the officer.
