‘cow Vigilantes Used Suv Which Was Supposed To Be Sold As Scrap’ | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: The SUV in which Rajasthan’s Nasir and Junaid were kidnapped from Bharatpur, assaulted and burnt to death in Haryana’s Bhiwani last week by alleged cow vigilantes was deregistered, purchased at a scrap auction and later sold to another such vigilante who died last year, Rajasthan police have said.
The person who bought the BS-4 engine-powered Bolero at the Haryana auction had given a declaration that it won’t run — an undertaking flouted with such impunity that it was used in previous incidents of cow vigilantism, the police said.
“During the auction it was clear that its registration won’t be transferred. Now it appears that the vigilantes deliberately took this vehicle in chasing cow smugglers or people suspected to be involved in cow smuggling in (Haryana’s) Mewat to go scot-free,” Gaurav Srivastav, IG, Bharatpur range, told TOI.
That’s not all. The Bolero had a string of violations, the police said, adding the registration could not be changed because it was supposed to be used as scrap when auctioned. It was registered in the name of “CEO, Zila Parishad, Jind (Haryana)”.
“We have also found that the vehicle had motor vehicle violations on the road but traffic cops could not do anything then since it was still registered under the name of CEO, Zila Parishad, Jind,” Srivastav said.
The police said they had seized the SUV from a gaushala (cowshed) in Jind and confirmed it was used in the incidents leading up to February 16 when the charred remains of Nasir, 39, and Junaid, 25, were found in the vehicle in Bhiwani.
“We could find the person who took this vehicle in an auction from Zila Parishad, Jind in Haryana. The auction was organised as the vehicle had become obsolete following a ban on BS-4 engines in 2020. Thus, it was clear that whoever will purchase the vehicle will only sell it off in parts as scrap and won’t be allowed to operate it. Still, this individual sold it to another person who was part of Gau Rakshak Dal in Haryana,” said a senior Bharatpur cop on the condition of anonymity.
“Our team also visited the house of this person and found that this man, who was part of a Gau Rakshak Dal, died in 2020,” the officer added.
