Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court has ordered the state government to pay a dismissed head constable the arrears of salary from the date of termination of his services till his death and pay all the terminal benefits to his legal heirs.
Hearing a petition filed on behalf of the deceased head constable, Justice Anoop Dhand found the termination of service without an inquiry and without verifying an audio clip in question illegal, said the petitioner’s counsel, Tanveer Ahmed.
The head constable, Hanuman Ram, was dismissed from service on February 27, 2020, after he was allegedly found demanding lakhs of rupees as bribe for releasing a vehicle carrying liquor and doda post. The alleged incident, which happened on February 4, 2020, was recorded in an audio clip that had gone viral on social media.
The Ajmer SP summarily dismissed Ram from service without holding an inquiry or verifying the audio on the ground that his act had tarnished the image of the entire police department.
The dismissal decision relied on the statements of three people: Kailash Kumar, Bajrang Singh and Om Prakash.
Hanuman Ram was posted as the head constable at the police check post at Jhadwasa under Nasirabad Sadar police station in Ajmer district, at the time of the incident. TNN
