Dularam: Dna Samples Help Cops Trace Cow Missing For 20 Months In Churu | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Seventy-year-old Dularam, a farmer from Ramnagar Bas village in Churu district, didn’t shave his moustache and beard for nearly 20 months after one of his cows went missing in September 2021. The septuagenarian had even climbed atop a mobile tower earlier this year in protest, as three different investigating officers of police had failed to trace his treasured cow, which was pregnant when it went missing.
Dularam’s prayers were finally answered on Sunday when a police team handed over the bovine to him, along with two of its calves. The Churu police managed to crack the case by DNA sampling of the missing cow — which the farmer claimed belonged to him — and its mother, which was at Dularam’s house.
After the cow went missing, a distraught Dularam had met every official — from SP Churu, IG Bikaner Range, to the DGP, as he was confident that the bovine he was claiming to be his actually belonged to him.
“In September 2021, Dularam lodged a missing complaint about his cow. He also named his neighbour as a suspect claiming that his cow was seen at the neighbour’s house, around 500m away from Dularam’s residence. Police investigated and after some months, closed the case due to lack of evidence,” said Om Prakash Godara, deputy superintendent of police, Tara Nagar, who managed to trace the missing cow. Dularam was shattered after the case’s closure. In July 2022, however, he found his cow roaming on the road and took her home.
“When my cow went missing, she was pregnant. After getting her back, I circulated on social media that whoever had her calves should return them to me. Following this, some people came and trashed me, and took away the cow claiming that I had stolen it. The case was investigated for the second time and police again filed a closure report in court,” said the farmer.
“Mujhe hi mere gai ko chor bana diyo (They blamed me for stealing my own cow),” said Dularam. Left with no other option, the elderly farmer then climbed atop a mobile tower in January when CM Gehlot was to visit Sadarshahar for bypolls. “This time, I assured him that I would properly investigate the case, and with my assurance, he climbed down,” said Godara.
The officer then met a veterinarian who advised him to take DNA samples. “We took the samples of two cows in January this year — one that was at Dularam’s house that he claimed was the mother of the missing cow, and the other of the cow that was at his neighbour’s house (that Dularam claimed to be his),” said Godara.
The DNA samples matched, thus confirming that the cow that was at the neighbour’s house was the bovine that had gone missing. It was handed over to Dularam, the actual owner, on Sunday.
“I can now shave my beard and am thankful to Rajasthan police,” said an elated Dularam. Cops will investigate the role of his neighbour in this case.
