Duo Wanted To Kill Lal At Home But Failed To Locate His Address | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Two accused, Gaus Mohammad and Mohammad Riyaz, had tried hard to locate Kanhaiya Lal’s home in Udaipur city, but their plans went awry as the duo failed to find his address.
“Their initial plans may have been to hit him in his house. Both the accused hunted around for the victim’s house, but their plans did not yield any result. The accused then zeroed in on his shop,” said a police officer.
“Lal also got a whiff that some conspiracy was weaving around him. He took all precautions, he shut his shop for a few days because he feared that people will come for him as soon as he opens his shutters,” the official said.
Police said the two accused were regular visitors to the Malda Street area where Lal had his store ‘Supreme Tailors’. The two accused are suspected to have picked up the news about Lal’s alleged social media post in support of ex-BJP leader Nupur Sharma in the market itself. “When Lal was jailed and later released for his comments, he was facing threats from several persons,” police said.
Sources in police said Riyaz had made a machete and they sharpened it about five days ago. “The accused had sharpened the machete to cut meat,” the official added.
Police also suspect that a proper recce of Lal’s shop preceded the gruesome murder. “The accused were waiting for their target to resume his work and when he finally opened his shop, they struck at him,” the official said.
The sources in police said that it was too early to conclude if the two accused were active members of any known terror outfits. “Investigation into the case has been handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). They have expertise in probing such matters,” the official said.
