Economic Offences: Economic offences in Rajasthan increase by over 17% in 2022 | National Crime Records Bureau | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Cases of economic offences in Rajasthan increased by more than 17.22 percent in 2022 as compared to the previous year, putting the state in the top rank in the country, according to data released by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
This is the third consecutive year when the state maintained its position at the top in economic offences, as per the report.
“There has been a constant increase in economic offenses over the past three years in Rajasthan.
The state recorded 23,757 cases in 2021, up from 18,528 cases in 2020, and the number escalated to 27,848 in 2022,” reads the NCRB report. Economic crimes caused investor losses estimated at upwards of Rs 2,000 crore per year, it said.
According to the figures for 2022, forgery, cheating and fraud (Sections 420, 465, 468, 471, 231-243, 255, and 489A to 489E of IPC) accounted for a total of 27,377 cases; criminal breach of trust (Sections 406 to 409 of the IPC) had 423 cases; and counterfeiting (Sections 231-243, 255, and 489A to 489E of the IPC) had 48 cases.
The state police attributed the phenomenon to several key aspects in the booming real estate sector, which is filled with a network of dubious people, spilling onto other fields. Some of these players even launched credit cooperative societies of their own, said officials.
As the significant rise in these offences pointed at an alarming trend, the state government also announced the setting up of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and Economic Offences with the aim of investigating economic offences and controlling cheating cases.
The new directorate was proposed to operate under the revenue department, and the state government planned to create 107 new posts for the same.
“As per the proposal, there will be a director general at the top, with four additional directors, ten joint directors, and 20 deputy directors along with others, including office assistants, etc,” said an official.
