Free Street Project To Solve Traffic, Parking Woes | Jaipur News

Jaipur: The city traffic police have launched a “Free Street” project aimed at removing haphazard parking that impedes vehicular traffic. Additional commissioner of police (traffic and administration) Rahul Prakash said as part of the project, police teams examined the areas outside the railway stations on Sunday to instruct e-rickshaw and auto-rickshaw drivers to park properly, allowing vehicles to move freely.
“In the first phase of project, we have asked vendors to move away from the road while selling fruits and vegetables. We are concentrating on making sure that no vehicles are parked on the road in the second phase,” he said, adding that similar operations would be carried out at all bus stations.
He claimed that in order to find issues that impede traffic flow, the traffic police also surveyed the main streets of the city to identify problems that impedes the traffic flow.
“We found that ATM maintenance vans, which are frequently parked right on the roadway, is one of the many reasons impeding traffic,” he said. As per Prakash, vehicles delivering milk, water cans, and other supplies also contributed to gridlock on the roads.
The traffic police officials have been asked to first advise drivers to park properly and avoid impeding traffic. However, if the same problem persists after a few days, the police will begin issuing challans. The police survey also showed how small restaurants, tea shops, and snack joints contributed to traffic blocks on roads. Police officials said they will make arrangements to ensure that vehicles are parked properly, minimising obstructions for traffic flow. tnn
