Egyptian Vultures: Egyptian Vultures Tagged With Gps Found Dead In Raj | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Two Egyptian vultures, ringed and GPS-tagged by the Russian Raptor Research and Conservation Network (RRRCN) in the Karatau mountains in Kazakhstan, were found dead in Rajasthan.
One male bird, tagged in August 2022, was discovered lifeless in Jaisalmer, where it arrived after covering a distance of 3,512 km. Similarly, a female bird, tagged on July 29, 2022, was found dead at Nokha in Bikaner district, after flying a distance of 2,322 km to reach Rajasthan.
Ornithologists had tagged these birds to study the migratory path of Egyptian vultures heading to Jorbeer in Bikaner, Rajasthan, known for hosting the highest number of raptors in the country during their winter sojourn.According to recent satellite records, it was their journey.
Dau Lal Bohra, a vulture conservationist, who was part of the tagging mission in Kazakhstan, said, “The bird in Nokha is suspected to be dead due to the Diclofenac drug, which is used in veterinary medicine. When we visited the site, the remains were found in a dumping yard. There was no sign of electrocution or the bird falling prey to feral dogs. We also did not find the device at the location, probably it was dismantled by the dogs.”
The male bird in Jaisalmer is also suspected to be dead, as its location has been recorded in the middle of the desert for the past few months. Bohra said, “It’s difficult at the location, as the route is non-motorable, and the area is sensitive due to the border.”
Researchers had previously believed that a flock of Egyptian vultures found in India and Rajasthan was mostly resident, but recent studies have revealed that these raptors migrate in large numbers from the Karatau Mountains in Kazakhstan, claimed to be the biggest vulture colony in the world.
Environmentalists claim that thousands of raptors from more than 17 species migrate to the carcass dumping site in Rajasthan, which has the highest number in the country and Asia.

BJP: Kharge claim on stealthy OBC tag for Modi caste baseless
Congress faces backlash as Mallikarjun Kharge’s accusation about PM Narendra Modi pushing his Ghanchi-Teli caste into the OBC list is refuted by Purnesh Modi, a Gujarat MLA. The government resolution of 1994, which included the Modi community in the OBC list, is public. Congress’ promise of a caste survey coincides with the accusation. PM Modi’s inclusion of Ghanchi-Teli caste in the OBC list was based on Union government orders. The matter was settled in 2014 and PM Modi was not the CM of Gujarat at the time.
