Electoral Roll: Cec On 3-day Jaipur Visit From Sept 29 |

Jaipur: The chief election commissioner (CEC) of India Rajiv Kumar is scheduled to visit Jaipur in the last week of September (from September 29) to review preparedness for assembly elections. He will hold a press conference in the city on October 1. The election commission of India (ECI) has increased the election expenditure limit for candidates from Rs 30 lakh to Rs 40 lakh. In the 2018 assembly elections, the election expenditure limit was Rs 28 lakh. “Political parties will be informed about it and awareness will be created among the candidates about the election expenditure limit,” said an official.
As part of special summary revision, 5.5 lakh applications have been received for the addition of new names to the electoral roll and 3.3 lakh applications have been received for deletion of names, said chief electoral officer of Rajasthan Praveen Gupta. The final electoral roll will be published on October 4.
As many as 8.20 lakh new voters were added to the electoral roll and 3.97 lakh deleted since January 5, 2023, taking the total number of voters to 5.20 crore in the state as the draft voters’ list was published under the Election commission’s second special summary revision program in August.
The election commission, making amendments to the conduct of election rules, 1961, has changed the definition of senior citizens. According to the amendments, only those above 80 years of age shall be considered as senior citizens, instead of those above 65 years.
This means that only voters above 80 years of age can opt for postal ballots during elections, said Gupta.

The Commission has scheduled a hearing on October 6 to address the matter. An interim order to freeze the NCP poll symbol and require the factions to choose different names and symbols is not currently necessary, as there are no upcoming elections in Maharashtra and Nagaland. The factions have submitted written statements to the EC, with the Sharad Pawar faction requesting more time and the Ajit Pawar faction advocating for a prompt resolution.
