Ex-cop from Rajasthan who saved lives during Amarnath tragedy dies | Jaipur News
The deceased was identified as Sushil Khatri, former in-charge of Sriganganagar traffic police station. He retired in March this year and hailed from Bikaner.
Khatri was among the batch of 22 devotees who had left from Sriganganagar on July 3 for Amarnath Yatra. His relatives, Mohanlal Wadhwa and Sunita Wadhwa (in-laws of Sushil’s daughter) also hailing from Sriganganagar, died in the tragedy that killed 16 people and injured more than 40.

Khatri, had planned a holiday with his wife and son.
He was staying in a tent near the Amarnath cave along with many other people from Sriganganagar, including Sunita and her husband Mohanlal.
District collector of Sriganganagar Rukmani Riyar told TOI that the authorities have confirmed three deaths and the bodies of deceased will probably reach Sriganganagar on Sunday after being airlifted from Srinagar.
The district administration is constantly in touch with the families of pilgrims survived, she added.
Khatri, a native of Bikaner had moved to Sriganganagar seven years ago after his promotion and served in several police stations as well as his last assignment as traffic in charge of the district.
Navneet Sharma, president of Langar Seva Samiti, Sri Ganganagar, camping at Srinagar told TOI over phone that Khatri saved several devotees from drowning in the flash flood before he washed away in gushing waters. Khatri along with his family and relatives was camping near the Amarnath cave as the floodwaters began to rise in the evening and the tents they were staying began to wash away.
