Extinction Event: Former Mayor Of Jaipur, 2 Ex-mlas, 3 Others Join Bjp | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Jaipur’s first directly elected mayor and Congress functionary Jyoti Khandelwal joined the BJP on Saturday. Congress was unwilling to consider her candidacy for either of Jaipur city’s two seats — Kishanpole and Hawa Mahal — in the upcoming Rajasthan assembly elections.
Congress has declared sitting MLA Amin Kagzi as its candidate from Kishanpole, while for the Hawa Mahal seat, the party was learnt to be considering someone other than Khandelwal, who had contested the Lok Sabha polls in 2019 against BJP candidate Ramcharan Bohra and lost by a whopping margin of 4.31 lakh votes.
The Congress has declared sitting MLAs Amin Kagzi and Mahesh Joshi as their candidates for Kishanpole and Hawa Mahal seats, respectively, leaving no scope for Khandelwal. She had contested the Lok Sabha polls in 2019 against BJP candidate Ramcharan Bohra and lost by a whopping margin of 4.31 lakh votes.
Khandelwal apart, two former Congress MLAs — Chandra Shekhar Baid from Taranagar (2003-08) and Nandlal Poonia from Sadulpur (2003-08 — and as many former IPS officers, Kesar Singh Shekhawat and Bhim Singh Pika, also joined the saffron party. Ravindra Singh Bhati, former president of Jodhpur’s Jai Narain Vyas University Student Union, who had already been campaigning from the Sheo assembly seat in Barmer district for the last one year, too joined the BJP.
“Congress party is not for those who are hardworking and dedicated. It has reduced to be a party of sycophants. I am the victim of such treatment by the party. They have underutilized my potential and robbed me of the opportunities that I deserved. Also, it was becoming difficult to face the public in the wake of rising crime against women, repeated paper leaks, and corruption during the current Congress regime,” said Khandelwal on joining BJP.
Responding to a question about whether she will be contesting polls from Kishanpole or Hawa Mahal on BJP ticket, she told TOI: “I have just joined the BJP, and it is for the leadership to decide whether I am capable of contesting and defeating Congress candidates.”
She asserted that the step she has taken will give confidence to many senior Congress functionaries, who will join the saffron party in the coming days.

BJP, BRS netas join Congress ahead of Telangana polls
Several politicians from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), including former MP and ex-MLA Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy, have joined the Telangana Congress ahead of the assembly election. They joined the party in the presence of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi. Raj Gopal stated that he had joined the BJP to bring down the current government, but realized that no action was being taken against it. He emphasized his main objective of defeating the current government and working for the welfare of the people.
