Jaipur: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is mulling on two proposals to make traffic movements around the Laxmi Mandir Tiraha smooth. First, to relocate the vendors on the roads adjacent to the Lal Kothi Sabji Mandi inside the market and second to close all gates on the recently constructed underpass side of the mandi.
“Until and unless we cannot remove the vendors adjacent to the sabji mandi we cannot make the signal-free traffic project successful.These interior roads would play an important role for this project. The enforcement department had been entrusted with the responsibility to remove the vendors. To add on, we have sent a proposal to Jaipur Municipal Corporation to relocate the vendors inside the mandi,” said a senior JDA official.
As per the proposal, there are several stalls inside the mandi which are in dilapidated condition. JDA wants to repair those stalls at its own cost so that these vendors can be relocated at these stalls. Officials said, until and unless the street vendors get a permanent space it won’t be easy to drive them away completely. The second proposal JDA had sent is to close the gates on the underpass-side of the market.
Officials stated as the gates are open on that side several customers are vehemently parking their vehicles on that road leading to unnecessary congestion. At present, not only cars, even buses and trucks are taking that road to reach the underpass and the breadth of the road is not much to handle such big vehicles along with the irregular parking.
“We had actually closed those doors before, but a local MLA came to the spot and created a lot of furor, forcing us to withdraw our decision. Now a fresh proposal has been given to JMC-Greater. Meanwhile we are going to construct a railing on the median of the road. This would ensure that customers won’t park their vehicles at least on the underpass-bound flank of the road as they won’t be able to cross the road easily to reach the market,” another JDA official signed off.

Almost 80% of Rattan Bazaar Road in Chennai is occupied by illegally parked vehicles, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and other road users. Despite the presence of police stations nearby, the problem persists. The Greater Chennai Corporation has outsourced one lane for parking, but the parking attendant allows three rows of vehicles, leaving only one lane for other vehicles. The civic body has been collecting parking tickets from illegally parked vehicles. The GCC plans to coordinate with smart city officials and police to address the issue.
