Eyewitness In Case Involving Jaipur Royals Turns Hostile | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: In a major setback to the prosecution in a 14-year-old hit-and-run case involving Jaipur royals, one of the eyewitnesses in the case turned hostile in the court on Saturday.
The prosecution produced, Aftab Ahmed, an eyewitness of the accident, at MM Court-7 of Jaipur Metro-I to record his statements. But Ahmed said in the statements that he does not recognize Vijit Singh, the step-grandson of Gayatri Devi, and that he saw him in the court for the first time. Vijit Singh was present in court with his counsel, Deepak Chauhan.
“I was not even present at the spot to see any incident, and I was at home the day this incident is reported to have taken place,” said Ahmed. After taking the statement of the witness on record, the court fixed the next hearing on March 4.
There are a total of 25 prosecution witnesses in this case. The statements of only two of these witnesses have been recorded so far.
According to the prosecution, Vijit Singh had run his brand new Volkswagen Touareg V6 TDI car over a group of people crossing Tonk Road in Gandhinagar police station area on December 14, 2008.
A woman named Babita Choudhary was killed, and four of her friends were injured. Babita, a first-year MBA student in Kota, had come to Jaipur on a trip with her friends.
