Ghaggar Water Level Drops Below Danger Mark | Jaipur News

“We were expecting that the water level in Ghaggar River would come down to normal level on Tuesday. But because of the overnight rainfall it did not happen. Although there was no disaster, due to incessant rainfall, a few new embankments along were destroyed. Those have been repaired,” said a district official.
On Tuesday afternoon, finally the water level got below the danger mark of 20,000 cusecs. At that time, the water level in Ghaggar siphon was 19,374 cusecs. Although district administration had earlier decided to sent back the refugees at the relief centre to their respective homes, they changed plan after incessant rainfall and forecast for more rainfall in the next 24 hours.
“Although the flow of water from Ottu Head has considerably reduced and subsequently water level in Rajasthan has also decreased, we are not taking any risks. We are keeping a close watch on the situation,” added another district official.
Meanwhile, owing to incessant rain and the water flowing down through the Ghaggar siphon, water level in the downstream of the Ghaggar River got increased. As a result of this, few embankments at the Rangmahal village located in the Suratgarh subdivision of Sri Ganganagar district got damaged. “However, we had managed to restore the embankments before the village could get flooded,” said a district official.
