Good response to foreign language courses in Rajasthan University | Jaipur News

The varsity has so far received more than 100 forms from students wanting to pursue a one-year diploma in a foreign language along with graduation. There are 70 seats for every language. University administration said that with rising globalisation, the scope of these languages has increased and students have realised that learning a language will enhance their employment opportunities.

Head of the department of European Languages, Literature and Cultural Studies, assistant professor Nidhi Rai Singhania said, “Earlier, these courses were not very popular, but with more exposure, students have realised their worth. With just nominal fees, students are able to get certificate in foreign languages that helps them get jobs in embassies, tourism department and in educational institutes.”
Recently, the CBSE has introduced foreign language an optional subject till class
10. Moreover, many language teaching institutes, colleges and embassies hire such educated youth.
“We even have a student exchange programme where students study for one semester in France. Last year, we sent three students to France. Foreign languages are an upcoming field in the country,” said Rai.
The response is completely opposite to Urdu, Persian and Sanskrit. The only Sanskrit university of the state has received only 10% forms as compared to the number of seats they have. In Urdu and Persian certificate course, only one form has been received.
