Govt To Promote Millets In Mid-day Meal, Indira Rasoi | Jaipur News

Jaipur: The state government is promoting millets in a big way. Agriculture commissioner Kanaram said with a view to providing nutritious food, the state government has decided to include coarse grains in the mid-day meal, Indira Rasoi, and Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) schemes.
He said, the ‘Rajasthan Millet Promotion Mission’ has been launched to increase the production of coarse grains and increase domestic consumption. Besides, a provision of Rs 40 crore has been made for the establishment of 100 primary processing units for farmers, entrepreneurs, and voluntary organisations to promote its consumption.
Cereals like millets, jowar, ragi and kodo have been included in coarse grains. Scientists have given the status of ‘nutritious grains’ to coarse grains due to the high amount of nutrients and being rich in protein, vitamin-B and minerals and these cereals should be included in the food for complete nutrition.
Karnam said that the state government is distributing mini kits of millets and jowar seeds free of cost to encourage the farmers the cultivation of coarse grains. Under this scheme, 8.32 lakh mini kits of high-yielding variety of millet seeds have been distributed in Kharif 2022.
He informed that in this financial year also mini kits of hybrid millet seeds would be distributed to 8 lakh farmers by the state government. TNN
