Jmc-greater Chairman, People Stir At Jda Office Over Poor Road | Jaipur News

Jaipur: A group of around 500 residents of the Sanganer constituency, led by Arun Sharma – the chairman of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (Greater) – protested at the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) office on JLN Marg on Monday. The protesters alleged that for the past 15 years they have faced harrowing times as JDA has not built roads and proper drainage system in their colonies.
“Around 15 years back JDA constructed roads in these colonies. Since then, only patch work has been done on the roads. Condition of the roads is miserable. In addition, the drainage network of these localities is appalling. Even mild showers lead to waterlogging,” said Arun Sharma, who is also the councillor of ward number 104 of JMC-Greater.
The councillor stated that residents of at least seven colonies located on both sides of Tonk Road – Kalyan Nagar, Nagiri Nagar, Ram Mandir, Mathur Vaishya Nagar, Printer’s Nagar, Shyam Colony and Prahlad Nagar – are the worst sufferers.
“In all, there are around 10,000 residents in these localities. Despite several requests in the last four years JDA has turned a blind eye to the problems of these residents, primarily, because the MLA of the constituency is from BJP,” alleged Sharma.
Sitaram Saini, a 54-year resident of this locality claimed that there are several potholes on the roads and even during a short spell of rain the roads are waterlogged. There are several old houses in the locality where water enters the ground floor during every monsoon, he added.
“We requested the councillor and lodged complaints with the JDA. Both JMC-Greater and JDA are passing the buck to each other. No one is trying to solve our problems,” Saini said.
JDA officials claimed that apart from these colonies, there are several others in Jaipur, which are more than 20-25 years old.
Engineers regularly maintain the roads in these colonies which are under their jurisdiction.
“With elections around the corner, councillors are now demanding complete renovations of roads. We are trying to re-carpet a few roads, but fund is a major concern. Problem with drainage system is a subject matter of JMC-Greater,” a JDA official added.
