Gujjar: Gujjars To Hold Quota Summit In City On June 18 | Jaipur News
Jaipur: Several organisations of the Gujjar community would organise a ‘mahakumbh’ in Jaipur on June 18 to raise an array of demands, including “proper representation” to the community in political institutions, said Shailendra Singh Gujjar, general secretary of Rajasthan Gujjar Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (RGASS), on Sunday.
The mahakumbh would be organised at VT Road Ground on Shipra Path, Singh told a press conference, where a poster for the event was also launched. The poster carries pictures of Gujjar leaders Kirori Singh Bainsla and Rajesh Pilot. Political leaders such as MLAs and MPs, religious leaders, social leaders and public representatives of the Gujjar community from across Rajasthan and other states will attend the mahakumbh, said Singh. The family members of Bainsla and Pilot will also be invited for the mahakumbh, he added.
“A demand will be placed before all political parties during this mahakumbh to ensure proper representation of the Gujjar community in political institutions (such as state Assemblies, Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, and civic bodies). Other demands that will be discussed include creation of a Gujjar regiment in the Army, inclusion of 5% reservation to most backward communities (MBC) in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution, and withdrawal of police cases against Gujjar leaders who had participated in the quota agitation from 2006 to 2020,” said Singh.
Other demands of the Gujjar community include a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families members of Roop Narayan and Jairam, who died during the quota agitation, and fulfilment of the agreement signed between RGASS and the state government in 2019 and 2020.
