Lawrence In Custody, 12 Teams Out For His Network | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Nearly a dozen police teams have fanned out in different directions to trace and arrest men running the syndicate of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who was sent to seven-day police remand by a local court on Thursday, said police sources.
Bishnoi was brought to Jaipur from Punjab on Wednesday evening as part of the ongoing probe into his alleged role in the Days Hotel firing case. A list of people associated with Bishnoi has been drawn up by the police team working on the gangster’s network, said the sources.
Bishnoi’s counsel Deepak Chouhan said the court has allowed his lawyers to meet him during his police remand. “We argued before the court that since he (Bishnoi) was in jail at the time of firing, police should have first gathered evidence instead of arresting him,” he said.
A special team of Jaipur police led by additional DCP (West) Ram Singh is interrogating Bishnoi. Efforts are on to identify members of Bishnoi’s gang, said sources.
“We are at work to arrest all his (Bishnoi’s) aides who have made nearly seven extortion calls to different businessmen,” said a police official on the condition of anonymity.
Jaipur police commissioner Anand Shrivastava said police would wipe out Bishoni’s syndicate. The gangster and his men are involved in serious illegal activities in different regions of Rajasthan and Delhi-NCR, said police officials.
“Bishnoi’s associates are running illegal betting rackets, partnering in several toll businesses, and bootlegging. We have information that Bishnoi’s syndicate has also partnered with several bars and clubs in the Delhi-NCR region,” said a top official.
Police said they want to ensure Bishnoi’s syndicate does not take root in Jaipur. “It is important that we stop the gangster before he spreads his syndicate in Jaipur. Bishnoi’s gang operates in a decentralized manner, with different gangsters leading multiple branches of the syndicate,” said an official.
