Hanumangarh Hamlets Along Ghaggar Bed May Be Flooded | Jaipur News

Jaipur: Officials of the water resources department (WRD) had stated that conditions of Hanumangarh is quite ‘sensitive’ and the villages along the beds of the Ghaggar River might get flooded in the next 72 hours.
While the beds of the Ghaggar River can handle at the most 17,000 to 18,000 cusecs of water, on Friday Haryana had released 25,000 cusecs of water from the Otu Head and the excessive water is flowing through the river towards Hanumangarh.
“The problem is on the upstream of the river as another 53,000 cusecs of water had been released and it is flowing towards the Otu Head. Eventually it would also reach Hanumangarh. The situation in the next few days would be quite sensitive,” said Amarjeet Singh Meharada, the chief engineer of WRD in Hanumangarh.
On Sunday, around 12,000 cusecs water was flowing on the beds of the Ghaggar River – around 500 cusecs more than that on Saturday evening. WRD officials are now keeping the intake structure of the Indira Gandhi Canal ready to divert the additional waterinto the canal. However, officials are concerned that at the most they can divert only 10,000 cusecs.
According to the district administration, 700 villagers so far have shifted to the relief centers set up by the district administration or shifted to their relatives’ places.
