Health min rules out infection from hosp | Jaipur News
JAIPUR: Health minister Parsadi Lal Meena and ACS (health) Shubhra Singh on Tuesdaymet the patients of SMS Hospital who were found infected with pseudomonas bacteria post-surgery. From June 26-28, 74 patients were operated upon in the ophthalmology operation theatre. Of these, 18 patients are currently undergoing treatment at SMS Hsopital for bacterial infection in eyes post-surgery.
“The patients will be discharged from the hospital as they recover in a day or two. They will be called back after some days. The patients will undergo operations again for transplantation of cornea or other parts as per the need,” said Meena.
He said that the source of infection is not ascertained yet but ruled out the possibility of the infection having spread from the hospital. “The infection is not from our hospital, OT, doctors or our team. If it had happened from here, it would have affected all the 74 patients. We have asked the patients to bring their medicines and other related items to check the source of infection. There was no carelessness on the part of the hospital. The treatment was done with care,” he said.
As OTs are closed since Thursday, the waiting list of patients for surgery is getting longer each day. “It is a serious issue. The entire administration is trying to find out the cause of infection,” said ACS Shubhra Singh.
